Launching the Imagination Time Excerpt Summary

Capturing an exact moment can really change the meaning to a piece of art or any image really. By selecting a crucial moment you can enhance the emotional response from the viewer. An example from the article that really has this point is the picture of the exploding Hindenburg. If the picture had been of it just floating in the sky, it would not have brought such a dramatic image of that horrible moment of the explosion. A film is composed of various sequences that are made up of scenes which are a combination of shots that have a different amount of frames in each set. These different components really help to give the narration and expression of a film. There are also different relationships seen in a film, they are: graphic, spatial, temporal, and rhythmic. Graphic relationships connect two or more images by having them be similar to each other while a spatial relationship can have the stage on which the scene is on compress or expand. A temporal relationship can establish chronology especially using flashbacks and rhythmic relationships happen when shots are combined to show contrasts or interplay between different actions. This article explains how The Birds uses all of these elements to create an explosive climax and is truly a dramatic and suspenseful film. Time is really the most basic and important element when creating things such as a film because it will determine how the viewers see it and react to it.
