One Paragraph Response of John Oswald's Work
One thing that stuck out to me in John Oswald's work is how he recognizes that sounds are reusable and he describes how he can recreate them to be somewhat original in the way he manipulates them to create a new sound. I remember first hearing some of my favorite songs in other songs and I'd get kinda upset because the artist I first heard it from didn't seem like they were getting credit for their work. But I think it's a delicate situation and there are different ways to go about it. I think the whole situation with the Doors was really weird and annoying because I feel like, as I said before, artists should get credit for their work but I think that if you use someones work but in a very different way it should be okay and not be too big of a deal. After listening to what Oswald made it seemed like it was used in the right way, but it's still kind of hard because it is someone else's work. I like how he uses spoken word in his work, it's really unique how we mixes different voices and changes the length that each speaks. Case of Death was interesting but got sort of confusing at some points when they go really fast. But I definitely hadn't heard anything like it before.
