The Ears Have Walls Questions

1. What is the difference in sound and image according to Chion as paraphrased in the article?
The difference in sound and image according to Chion is when the viewer sees an image in the movies they can always see where it ends because of the edges of the frame while the sound in a cinema has no boundaries because sound is not contained in anything and continuously exists.

2. What is the relationship between the idea of sound as a habitat and sound as immersive?
The relationship between the idea of sound as a habitat and a sound as immersive is the sound of habitat seems to be something you would need before you could have sound as immersive because you need the habitat or specific space to be able to immerse into it and really be in some sort of "walled" area of the sound you are experiencing.

3. How is sound immersive? Describe two situations: one example from the reading on the immersiveness of sound and one from your own personal experience.
Sound is immersive because you can really attach yourself to what you're hearing and just focus on sound and really get an experience from it. An example from the reading on the immersiveness of sound is sitting in a bath. An example of sound immersion from my own personal experience is when I'm at the gym and listening to music. I am only focused on listening to the music because it enables me to keep working out. If someone speaks to me or I get distracted from my music I feel weaker because it really allows me to stay dedicated to finishing whatever I'm doing and something else coming into that just kind of breaks that progression.
