Project 1 Artist Statement

For this project we were required to create a stop-motion video. Making a stop-motion can be very difficult and it took a little while to be able to come up with an idea. But by seeing the examples in class and looking for other ones online at home, it became a little easier. I found a lot of videos that would show objects moving or processes of cooking food. I decided to put these two ideas together and create a video where I show someone making a sandwich and then having little animals steal and eat it. It is more on the comedic side as it’s funny to see the animals move around and take things.
It was fun to create the video but also very hard. It’s difficult to have to basically have someone move inch by inch and take a picture each second. I would have the actor do the process of things like opening the fridge and grabbing the bread and just make every movement very slowly while I took the picture. Then, I would have to do the scenes with the animals moving them little by little. I used a tripod for the whole video because it is just so much easier to have the movements look right. I did end up taking too many pictures because I wanted to have the movements look smoother but it ended up being over a minute long. But by cutting out many images I was able to create my video and it turned out well.
